Starting to catch up....

(I have tons and tons to post now that we have the internet again but it will have to be a little at a time)

The call of the colonists, from the fourth established colony in the new world, were beckoning us to come explore. One of the many benefits of living on the East coast is being able to take advantage of all the historical sites that surround us. St. Mary's City is just a little ways down the road from our home. They have special homeschooling days a few times a year. The family membership is so reasonably priced that we took advantage of that because we will go a few times a year I am sure. The grounds are also so very beautiful that we can go share an afternoon picnicking in the shadow of history.
Thayne's favorite part was swabbing the deck of the ship The Ark. It came across with The Dove which carried about 140 persons. The Ark carried just a crew and supplies for the colonists. Then stayed to ferry up and down the river.
This is a working ship. They still take it up and down and travel all over to show it off.
We got to hear a cannon demonstration while we were there. It was incredibly loud and I am convinced that there was no way pirates were not deaf.

Lydia is being punished in the shackles, she's a little short to make it comfortable so it is the perfect torture.

We had so much fun and spent over four hours there. We could have spent even more time because we did not even see about half the stuff. The boys' favorite part was learning how to "use" a musket and they pretended they were part of the militia ranks.
It was so much fun we can't wait to go back and take Daddy and the older girls.

Quayde was really good at an old fashioned baseball type game. I swear he doesn't wear this shirt every day. Just it seems that he wears it every time we go somewhere I am taking pictures of him.

We love doing things like this. Lydia is now an indentured servant.See how happy she is... obviously she doesn't have a clue what being a indentured servant is.  We learned a lot of interesting facts and really had a blast with our school group.
